Welcome

Mrs. Zapien is the lead ESOL teacher as well as the CARE lead for the school. She has worked at McAuliffe for 14 out of her 15 years teaching. Mrs. Zapien believes that all students can learn given the opportunity. She has a master's degree which focuses on the curriculum and education of students who speak English as a second language. She is able to sign in American Sign Language and can speak some Spanish.  She is currently working on a K-3 endorsement because she believes that she should have the same training as the homeroom teachers with whom she works with daily. Her goal for her students is to make learning so interesting that they will become life-long learners.

Mr. Sutcliffe began teaching English as a Second Language thirty years ago. He has taught adults English at community schools, community colleges, universities, language schools, businesses and factories and now he teaches elementary school students. This is his fourteenth year of teaching ESOL at McAuliffe Elementary School. The challenges are wide ranging, but the rewards are still the same: the satisfaction of seeing people learn to believe in themselves and accomplish more because of what they know.
