Music Activities May 18th-22nd

Hello 3rd Grade!

I hope you are doing well. This week we are going to learn more about a composer that we talked about this year, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. First, I want you to watch this short video about Mozart.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbbVZWBmhQw

After watching the video, read the following short biography about Mozart.
https://www.classicsforkids.com/composers/composer_profile.php?id=46&src=timeline

Also under the article are two recordings of some of Mozart's most famous pieces. Listen to these recordings and write down how the music makes you feel. Music is connected to emotions so I want you to think about how the music makes you feel.

Have a great week!

Music Activities May 4th-8th

Hello 3rd Grade!

This week we were going to review rhythm, but unfortunately YouTube has been giving me a hard time and won't upload my videos for some reason. I will have the videos up by next week for you though so this week we are going to do something different. We are going to learn more about one of the composers that we have talked about this year, Ludwig van Beethoven. First, I want you to watch a short animated video about the life of Beethoven.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fazaTlnlfkg

After watching the video, read this short little article about Beethoven.
https://www.classicsforkids.com/composers/composer_profile.php?id=7&src=timeline

Also under the article are two recordings of some of Beethoven's most famous pieces. Listen to these recordings and write down how the music makes you feel. Music is connected to emotions so I want you to think about how the music makes you feel.

Have a great week and be ready to review rhythm next week!

Music Activities April 27th-May 1st

Hello 3rd Grade!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! This week I have a fun online activity for you that allows you to create your own music! This week we will be exploring Chrome Music Lab.

Chrome Music Lab is an online resource that allows you to create your own music easily. It is a lot of fun and I hope you enjoy it!

The first section I want you to try is called Song Maker. With Song Maker, you can draw pictures and color in the blocks to play different notes. At the bottom on the left is the Play button. When you press this, it will play the song you composed, or created. Next to the play button are circles with instruments on them. You can click these to change the instruments. On the bottom in the middle, you can change the tempo, or speed, of the music. Play around with this section and create some cool songs!

The next section I want you to try is called Rhythm. This one is similar to Song Maker but is just rhythm. Try and create some cool beats in this section!

The last one I want you to try is called Kandinsky. This one allows you to draw different shapes and each shape makes a different sound. This is called Kandinsky because it's inspired by artist Wassily Kandinsky who compared painting to making music. This one is a lot of fun and is my favorite one!

Have fun and be creative with these this week!

Music Activities April 20th-24th

Hello 3rd Grade!

I hope everyone enjoyed the activities from last week and are ready for some fun new activities this week! First I want you to watch this short video of STOMP and the Harlem Globetrotters where they use basketballs to create music and rhythm.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YhQwsw03yk

This year, we have talked about how music is always around you and how you can make music out of everything, just like how they used basketballs and the basketball hoop to make rhythm and music. Now I have a challenge for you! I want you to find something around your house that you can use to make rhythm and music, just like STOMP and the Harlem Globetrotters did. You can use a ball or be creative and find something else, with an adult's permission of course. Below is a video of me explaining the activity more for you so make sure to watch the video!

Have fun with this activity and be creative with it. Reach out to me with any questions or if you want to share what you found!

After the first activity, review your treble clef note names with any of the games from last week!

Music Activities April 14th-17th

Hi 3rd Grade Students!

I hope everyone is staying healthy and doing well. Here are your music activities for this week!

First, watch this video as a refresher of the treble clef and note names.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Bv-JiFnoJ4

Then play this fun game called "Word Warrior Treble Clef". In this game, you have to read the notes on the staff and use those letters to spell words.

Then play this fun game called "Treble Note Rally". In this game you have to quickly identify the notes on the staff to make your race car go even faster!

Your last activity for this week is to come up with a new way to remember the lines of the treble clef. In class I use, "Every Good Boy Does Fine". So come up with your own way to remember it and be creative! If you come up with a really good one you would like to share, email me at goodricm@pwcs.edu.

Next week, we are going to be doing some singing and rhythmic activities!

Have a great week!
